So the other day I was walking past a condominium that I pass every other day.
Last time I passed it there was a huge banner in front of the entrance.
The banner said that AirBnB was illegal in that building.
Whether or not this is true I don't know....
So when I passed the same building again today they had already installed a fingerprint scanner that only allows people to enter the building that were registered with their fingerprints.
That's probably the end of AirBnB in that building...
Is this illegal?
I don't know.
But until this thing gets sorted out, most people renting out places in that building will probably already have taken huge financial hits that won't allow them to keep doing it.
But this post isn't about AirBnB.
It's about something else entirely.
It could also be about Facebook.
Or Twitter.
Or Pinterest.
Or your boss.
Or your retirement fund.
Or whatever.
So here's what this post is really all about...
It's about the dangers of building your house on someone else's ground.
On a ground you don't own.
That you can not control.
Here's the thing...
I'm sure that tons of people rented or maybe even bought apartments in that building to make a quick buck renting them out to tourists.
Otherwise they wouldn't have put up those banners.
And even the fingerprint scanner.
And I'm sure it's been working quite well for quite some time.
It's always like this.
Things work.
Until they don't...
So what's the lesson here?
Don't rely on something that you have zero control over that could crush you, your income, your business, your family and your loved ones over night.
And never put all your eggs in just one basket.
Especially when you don't own that basket.
Because when that one basket is gone, everything is gone...
