What happens when you put people in charge who're really good at managing and optimizing the status quo when the status quo is falling about?
You get people who try to hold on to the status quo, who try to manage and optimize the status quo when the status quo is falling apart...
So it shouldn't be that big of a surprise when that country, government, company or whatever institution is slowly but steadily falling apart. Just like the status quo is.
On another note...
Nothing wrong with people who're really good at managing and optimizing the status quo.
It requires mastery and it's an art in itself to be able to manage and optimize the status quo.
But sometimes it's just not the status quo that we need.
Sometimes it's an entirely new status that needs to be created.
And being good at both, managing the past and creating a new future at the same time is just really, really difficult.
Especially when the people in charge have never created anything new before...
