Reading is about trust...
People read your stuff and keep scrolling because they trust you. Because you've consistently delivered good stuff in the past. Because you barely ever disappointed them.
You can reverse engineer whatever the heck you want.
You can analyze as many articles as you want to. You can crunch the numbers over and over again. You can big date the shit out of it. But the one thing all of your number crunching will never tell you because it can't be measured is trust.
Trust is the only reason why people will read your stuff. Why they will keep reading your stuff. Why they'll come back over and over again.
If I don't know you, I won't trust you. And if I don't trust you, I won't read your stuff. No matter how good it is. It's as simple as that.
And that's the only way to build an audience and a following. That's the only way to get people to read your stuff.
It's about trust. Always.
So how do you build up trust?
By showing up. Over and over again. By showing up more often than anybody else.
By consistently delivering good work. It doesn't necessarily have to be a home run every single time. But good work.
It's enough to hit a home run every once in a while.
And that's what it's really all about.
Reading is all about trust.
And writing is all about building that trust.
Just like everything else in life is all about trust...
