The other day someone sent me an email and asked me if I wanted to do an online course on productivity for their platform.
I have no clue if I'll do it. Probably not. I feel like I'm the least productive person on the planet.
But in case I do it, let me give you my best advice on productivity for free. Right here. So in case that course will ever come out you won't have to buy it.
As a matter of fact you will never have to buy any course, book, app or whatever on productivity ever again after you've read this post right here.
So here's the truth about productivity that no one will ever tell you. Because it's a trillion dollar industry...
To be more productive, to be the most productive person on the planet you've gotta do something you enjoy doing. It's that simple. But not necessarily easy.
If you're constantly doing things you don't enjoy doing, you'll always procrastinate. You'll never be as productive as you could be. Your energy levels will constantly be low. You'll always do just about enough. You'll always “forget” things. Just because you don't enjoy it.
Doing things you don't enjoy doing takes away all of your energy. But on the other hand, when you do things you really enjoy doing it gives you energy.
And that's all there is to know about how to be more productive.
So how can you do more of the things you enjoy doing?
Easy. You just do them. Over and over again.
Start small. Do it for five minutes a day. Then ten minutes. And so on.
Become better at it. Master it.
See your energy levels go up, instead of going down.
Sure, you won't be able to exclusively do things you enjoy doing. But when everything you're doing, even the things you don't enjoy that much are connected to something you enjoy, then you'll be the most productive version of yourself.
Look. I'd say that I don't enjoy a lot of the things I have to do to get my ideas, my work and my writing out there.
I just hate promoting my work. But ultimately I know that it'll help me to keep doing what I enjoy doing the most. It serves the overall purpose and it enables me to keep doing what I enjoy doing the most. It helps me to keep writing.
Everything I do that doesn't look like it's related to my writing actually helps me to keep writing. So in the end everything is actually related to writing.
I write about an hour a day. But I do more than ten hours of other stuff during the day to be able to write for just one hour a day.
And that's what it's all about. At least for me.
It's about working towards a life where you can do the things you enjoy doing. No matter what. Where every single day you try to become better at it and try to carve out a little more time to do the things you enjoy doing.
And who knows?
Maybe one day you might be able to only do the things you really enjoy doing.
It won't happen over night though. For sure. And you've gotta work hard.
But that's really the only thing that will help you to be more productive.
That's the only thing that has allowed me to publish 8 books, more than 500 blog posts and a hell lot of other stuff over the past three years.
I’m just doing what I enjoy doing…
