We lie to ourselves. All the time. To protect ourselves. And our egos.
He didn't call back because he lost my number.
I didn't get that promotion because she doesn't like me.
People didn't buy my book because they already bought so many other books.
If I'd only get that one chance, I'd make it.
I'm a lot better than she is.
You know, all of these situations where we try to run away from reality.
Where we run away from the truth.
Where we try to find the fault in someone or something else.
We never look at ourselves first.
It’s hard. I struggle with it every day.
But that's the first place we should look at.
Because if we don't, if we always find someone or something else to blame, then we will never get better at anything in life.
Sure, every once in a while someone else is to blame. But most of the time there isn't.
And if you're always blaming someone or something else, you'll never improve at anything.
You'll ultimately rob yourself from opportunities to become the best version of yourself.
And you'll be stuck at the exact same place you're at right now in 10 years from now.
So every once in a while try to not lie to yourself.
Every once in a while try to not bullshit yourself.
