I love discovering new hacks, tips, tricks and all sorts of cool new stuff online. Especially when these things seem to be super easy to implement.
And the internet is full of those things. Every day there are hundreds of new new things ready to be discovered.
And it's always the same thing. They don't work. At least not for me.
Well, maybe they have worked in the past but the thing with this kind of stuff is that it's just like insider trading.
The moment an insider information becomes publicly available it stops working.
People already cashed out long before you even got your hands on that new new thing.
The moment an insider information reaches the masses it stops working. Because when too many people do the exact same thing it stops working.
Like building an email list by giving away free ebooks and hoping to make a few sales in the future.
Or writing on Medium and hoping to piggyback on the already existing audience of millions of readers.
Or sending automated direct messages on Twitter welcoming new followers to get the conversation going.
Or offering your ebook for free on Amazon for a few days and hoping for a few sales once you start charging again.
And you know, none of these things work anymore. Because everybody else out there is already doing the exact same thing. This stuff might have worked in the past. Before it became public.
Well, most of it actually still works. But only if you do it differently. If you do something no one else is doing. The thing is this..
You need to stand out or no one will notice. You can't just do the exact same thing everybody else is doing. This stuff won't get you noticed. Why? Well, because everybody else is already doing it.
And that's the real challenge. You need to make your brain sweat. You need to do things differently. You need to come up with new ideas. New things. And new ways of doing things.
And if you find something that works for you, go all in on that. Be that guy who's popular for one sentence long Medium posts. Or that gal who is known for her 20 pages long Medium posts. It doesn't matter.
What matters is that you try to be different. And consistent. What matters is that you try to stand out.
That's the only way to get noticed. That's the only way to build your brand. That's the only way to build an audience from scratch.
By finding your own way of doing things. And by doing something no one else is doing. And not by doing what everybody else is doing..
