Whenever you ask successful people what made them successful they'll always say persistence. That they never gave up. That they never stopped believing in themselves. That they kept on pushing. No matter what.
But is persistence really the secret sauce to success? Or is success merely the result of an outcome of persistence?
What happens when you persist, when you never give up is this:
You'll basically close all other doors.
You eliminate all other options you have or had. And the longer you persist, the more doors you'll close.
No one is going to hire you after ten or twenty failed businesses. Sure, you create other opportunities. That's at least what they say. Is it true? Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know.
But what I know for sure is that when you pretty much eliminated all other options, when there is no other option left, there's only one thing you can do. Succeed. Success is the only option. There are no other options left. You eliminated all other options.
It's easy to say to be persistent.
But it's so much harder when you have hundreds if not thousands of other options. And this doesn't apply to just work. It applies to pretty much everything.
We live in a society with abundance of everything.
Abundance of girlfriends. Boyfriends. Things to eat. Things to drink. Restaurants to go out to. Cars to buy. Places to live. Places to travel to.
There's too much of everything. At least in most countries.
And the only thing that's going to happen when you persist, when you do something long enough, when you stay with someone long enough is that you eliminate all other options.
It has to work out. Because all other (easy) options have been eliminated over time.
And to me that's the real reason why all of these successful people tell you that persistence is the reason why they are or were successful. Whatever area in life we're talking about.
It's not so much about being persistent, but about the fact that being persistent will eliminate all other options.
So maybe a good way to be successful is to close all other doors.
To burn all other bridges. To eliminate all other options right from the very start. To go all chips all in right from the very start..
