We all want to change the game. We all want to leave a dent in the universe. Change the way the world works. Change the rules of the game. Have an impact. And make the world a better place.
The problem is that most people want to skip the part where they have to learn how the game works.
People don't want to learn the rules. I don't want to learn the rules. Learning the rules is tiresome. And it takes a hell lot of time. And then you need to apply the rules. You need to play by the rules. Too much work..
So people tend to skip the manual. They tend to skip the hard part. Well, because it's hard. I tend to skip the manual also. I think I'm smart enough to understand the essence of a game without reading the manual. Until I realize I'm not..
The truth is that you can only change the rules once you know them. Once you applied them and played by the rules for quite some time. Because only once you know the rules and played by the rules will you be able to really master a game. Will you be able to find tiny loopholes that will help you to change the game. The rules. The system.
Steve Jobs learned and applied the rules for more than twenty years before he completely changed the game. Heck, the entire universe.
He started a computer company, got kicked out, learned his lesson, started two other companies, sold them, went back to Apple and applied all the rules and things he learned over the past twenty years to completely change the game.
Mahatma Gandhi studied law and practiced law for many years before he was able to change the destiny of an entire country. Even though he knew the rules, he still ended up in prison before he was able to find a loophole to change the destiny of his country.
Elon Musk founded a company called X. It was like PayPal. So he merged his company with PayPal. He got fired, learned his lesson and is now involved in so many different things that I tend to forget at least one thing he's involved in.
He's now involved in space travel, an electric car company and an electricity company. And some more stuff. I forgot. He's probably one of the biggest game changers of the past few decades..
So whenever you think you might be able to skip the manual and all the hard work, think again. It usually takes a lot more than just an idea or the willingness to change the game.
It takes many years of learning the rules and playing by the rules until you might find a loophole to change the rules, the game and ultimately the world.
Alright. I have to go now. I still have to learn the rules..
