This is one of the first questions you'll ask someone new you just met. Or the other person will ask you at one point or the other.
All it does is that it helps us put people into boxes. Boxes that don't do any good to anybody. All it does is that it makes our lives easier.
It helps us to stop trying. To stop trying to find out who the other person really is. It helps us to stop thinking. Easy. Convenient. We open a drawer, put that person in there and the person will stay there. Most likely forever.
This robs us from one of the most amazing experiences out there. Getting to know someone without putting that someone into a box, right from the very start. It robs us from pleasant surprises. It robs us from being able to find out who the other person really is.
We live in a time where job descriptions and job titles don't mean a thing anymore.
We all know that the job we're currently working is just to get by. To pay the bills. At least for most of us. But deep down inside of us, inside all of us, there's that inner fire waiting to be unleashed. A small candle waiting to turn into a wildfire.
We all have dreams. And passions. And things we want to achieve. Things that don't have anything to do with our daily grind. Things that don't fit into a job description. Or a job title. Things that don't have anything to do with the stuff we're doing between 9 and 5.
So instead of asking “what do you do for a living” let's ask everyone new we meet “what's your inner fire?” Let's ask people the stuff that forces them to tell their real stories, instead of just a good story..
