Everybody is talking about the attention economy. Attention spans are going down. More and more outlets are fighting for our attention. But the discussion misses a very important point.
We don't live in an attention economy anymore. We live in a trust economy.
With more and more companies and people fighting for our attention, we turn to the things we already know. The things we trust. The things we want to believe in.
Paradoxically, even though in theory it's a lot easier to reach people today, it's gotten a lot more difficult to be able to really reach people and have an impact.
The thing is that I won't buy your products, read your articles, listen to your podcast or watch your videos if I don't trust you. I'll only do so once I trust you.
That's why we all use the same gadgets. Why we wear the same clothes. Why we're more the same than ever before. That's why only a few companies in the world have almost monopoly-like powers. Because we trust those brands.
Trying to grab someone's attention is not enough. You have to gain people's trust. And that's why it's so damn hard to stand out these days. That's why it's so hard to get noticed.
Building up trust on social media..
Is tough. I'll tell you a few ways how you can gain your prospect's trust. I put together a short email course where I tell you all of my secrets on how to go from Idea to profit. For FREE! You can join here: From Idea to Profit
Trust needs a lot of time to be built up. It needs to be built up little by little. One step at a time.
On the other hand, it's a lot easier and a lot more convenient to grab someone's attention. All you need is some cash, spend it on advertisement and then you'll be able to grab people's attention.
But for how long? Will it last? Probably not..
Attention doesn't lead to anything sustainable. Only trust does. Attention is just the beginning. The really hard work starts now. Once people clicked on your link. That's when the real magic has to happen..
