This might come as a surprise to some of you but most people remember the folks who supported them. For example I know who supported me and my work and who didn't (more or less).
People will especially remember when you supported them in their early days when support was still rare. When it was tough to find support.
And today you can track everything. So expect that people will somehow track who supported them in whatever kind of way.
So if you ask someone to support you or your project and you've never supported any of their work, don't expect them to support you. Don't be surprised if you get no support. Don't be pissed off.
Instead, always make sure that you help out first, before reaching out to anybody. It's that simple.
And it's not about helping the big guys.
The big guys are already big enough and don't need your help. And they will most likely not remember you anyway. There are just way too many folks trying to help them out.
Unfortunately, most people are still wasting their time hunting down the big guys. Time you could have used to get to know, bond and help out your fellow strugglers.
Try to remember to always help others before you help yourself.
I guess it's true what they say. If you helped me make a million, I'll make sure I'll help you make a million. Or be successful. Or whatever you want to achieve. That's what made Silicon Valley so big. Somehow this doesn't seem to work that well in other areas.
And I guess what it really boils down to at the end of the day is to help the small guys. Folks like you and me. Folks that didn't achieve anything yet. Folks that will remember who helped them out. Folks that might achieve something in the future. Or not. But you never know..
So stop wasting your time kissing those big guys' asses and build your own small army instead.
Build your army of small fish. Build your army of like-minded strugglers and hustlers. And then watch your army of small fish grow into baby sharks, one by one.
Grow together. Struggle together. Fail together. Get back up together.
Maybe one day your army of baby sharks will be swimming in the tank with the big sharks. And that's how you ultimately take down your Goliath..
