TweetThese are probably the words that I've heard the most during these last few years.
These words come in all shapes and colors.
Variations include “this cannot work in my country”, “this cannot work in my city”, “this cannot work in my industry” or my absolute favorite “that's not the way we do things here”.
Sometimes you can also hear “this will only work in xyz”.
And I have to admit it. I'm a big fan of this excuse, oops I meant phrase, as well.
But then again, all it really is, is just a cheap excuse.
It's an excuse for not trying hard enough. Or for not trying at all.
An excuse to stay at home comfortably rolled up in a cozy blanket, instead of going out into the rain and getting wet. Soaking wet sometimes..

People that came to your country, that don't speak the language, that have no clue about the culture, that have no clue about how to make business in that country. They don't know anything.
But these people make it work nevertheless.
They beat the odds. Over and over again. And then again.
So if you catch yourself again saying something like “this doesn't work in my country”, take a look at the people that made it work in your country, even though all odds were against them.
They had a much harder time than you'll ever have.
And then study them. Try to understand how they made it work. How they beat the odds.
Observe them. Understand their way of thinking. Their mindset.
Then nothing can stop you anymore. Then you can make it work. Everywhere.
That's how you turn the odds into your favor.
After all, most of the barriers, obstacles and restrictions only exist in your mind. In my mind. In our minds.
And nowhere else...
