I'm by all means a rather uneducated person.
If you were to ask me who the current minister of finance is in Germany I wouldn't be able to give you an answer. I have absolutely no clue. And I don't really care about it either.
I also have no clue when the US bill of rights was signed. I don't know anything about the house of lords and the other houses in the UK parliament. I also have no clue about what the Pythagoras is all about.
It's not that I never knew all of this stuff. I knew it a while ago. I learned all of this stuff by heart.
And then I forgot all of this stuff.
My brain had to make up space for other stuff. For new ideas. For new ways of looking at things. For new ways of thinking.
As you can see I'm a rather uneducated person. At least if you'd ask my mom...
Luckily, I don't have to care about this any longer. I don't have to care about this stuff anymore.
Today you can find all of this stuff in just a few seconds. Online.
A few years ago, the more you knew, the more successful you'd become.
Information was power. Knowledge was power.
Today, information is pretty much useless. Worthless.
The value of information decreased tremendously over the past few decades and with it the importance of remembering all sorts of information.
It was replaced by being able to cut through all the noise. By being able to identify the signal. The patters. The overall meaning. By being able to cut through life's complexity.
All the noise produced by thousands of information pieces we are exposed to day-by-day made it necessary to navigate life with a certain set of filters.
A set of filter that allows our brains to not get constantly distracted. To be able to focus. To give our brains the time to relax. To rejuvenate. To properly process what the hell just happened .
You brain needs a break. A break from the constant information overflow.
And one of the best filters to not get caught up in the content and information spinning and spitting wheel called the Internet is to decrease your (worthless) information intake.
There are many ways of doing this. Stop reading the news online for example. Stop watching the news. Stop reading newspapers.
I don't do any of this. It just clutters my brain with too much information. Useless information.
If my brain is cluttered with too much information it just feels like idea congestion.
Only BS comes out.
Honestly speaking all of this information not only clutters my brain. It also scares the shit out of me.
Death bodies everywhere. Terrorist attacks everywhere. Car crashes. Kidnappings. Robbery. Murder. Dead children. That's 90% of the stuff you'll hear about. Oh, or people losing their jobs. Disappearing middle class. China taking over. Cyber war.
Cut out all the information BS.
If you're afraid that you might miss out on something important, trust me on this one here:
The really important stuff will cut through all the noise. The signal will reach you. It will reach you through your family. Your friends. Your colleagues.
They will talk about the most important stuff. They are your natural BS filter. The filter that allows you to focus on what's really important these days. It will allow you to focus on ideas instead.
Today, ideas are power.
Ideas are the currency of the 21st century. Ideas are the basis for wealth. Ideas are the basis for new products. New companies. For an entire empire.
Ideas that spread are the basis for everything. And for ideas to spread they have to be really, really, really good..
Information was the currency of the last century. Don't stay stuck in last century thinking.
Instead, start to participate in the idea highway of this century. Participate in the present. The future. And don't be stuck in the last century. The information century.
Stop the constant content consumption. Information. Updates. Tweets.
All of this clutters our brains.
Our brains are thrashed with pieces of information. Pieces that keep our mind busy spinning during the day. Clutter that takes away our brains capacity to produce its own thoughts. Its own ideas.
Don't let your brain turn into an information trash bin.
Instead, make space to be able to create your own thoughts. Your own ideas. Space we need to generate ideas. The currency of this century.
Ideas will help to create new things. Ideas will to improve people's lives.
A lot of people ask me how I come up with so many ideas. Here's what I usually tell them:
If you constantly read about ideas (apps) that will help make millions of lazy people even lazier it's only natural that you're going to have similar ideas.
BS in, BS out. It's as simple as that.
And that's why I don't use a smartphone. Or watch the news. Or read any blogs. I read books of brilliant minds instead. Minds with great ideas.
And you should do so too. Or not. It's up to you. It's your life and you can do whatever the fuck you want.
But try to keep one thing in mind:
Our brain's bandwidth is very limited.
And I feel that our brains are just way too precious to clutter them with useless information.
I prefer to free up my brain's space to create ideas. And then spread it among people. Among you. Him. Her. Them.
And if people like my idea and it is a good idea they might spread the idea. You might spread the idea.
Ideas are power...
