We spend our lifetime searching for new things, better things, stronger things or faster things. Be it a better idea, a better girlfriend/boyfriend or a better life. It’s an endless pursuit. No it’s not a pursuit anymore. It’s a rush. A rush with no clear destination.
And this comes at a steep price.
It pushes us to throw away the things that would require just a little bit more effort than we might feel comfortable with. We tend to throw these things away instead of being more disciplined.
This holds true for so many things in our lives. Be it the relationship that got somehow complicated, which we prefer to throw away instead of trying to patch things up. The idea for a startup we stopped working on after just a few months because it didn’t turn out to be an overnight success.
The potential customer we don’t follow up anymore because he didn’t buy right away. The potential partner that never wrote back or the job we already quit mentally because of a difficult situation in the company.
To me it seems that new is always better in the eternal pursuit of a better this or a better that. We tend to throw things away and give up quickly, whereas it would be a lot easier to try to patch things up and be more disciplined and persistent in the things we do.
To me, new is not always better...
