So far I was convinced that networking and networking events were lame and the probability that I would meet someone valuable for my own project was about zero. I didn't take it serious. After a couple of months living in this environment I discovered how much fun it was mixing, shaking and finally putting the dots of existing and new contacts together to form potential synergies. I knew it wouldn’t directly influence my own projects but that didn’t matter. There was something much bigger going on.
Let’s say you introduced two people to each other and they start working together. What happens is that you will be able to tap into two completely new networks. Why is that you might ask? Well, the people you introduced to each other will from now on share their network with you. They will feel that you helped them grow their business and want to give back at some point. BINGO!! Your reputation just increased ten fold. And all of this happened by taking networking more serious and going to maybe one or two of these lame networking events. And I haven’t even mentioned the best thing about networking events yet. There is usually a lot of pizza and drinks for free!!
Oh and did I already mention that it's awesome to see someone else’s project grow by helping him or her a bit? So go out of your apartment building, start networking, connect the dots and start multiplying your network size. That is the real power of networking. It's there waiting for you to use it. So why not tap into it?
